Off to a great start in 2019!

It’s been a bit since we’ve updated the news section here! For those that haven’t been following along on our Facebook page, we’ve officially moved into our first year round indoor training space! Two Rivers Martial Arts in Indianola has been very supportive and we’re extremely thankful to them for working with us!

With this permanent indoor training space, we’ve now also been able to stabilize our training schedule, which is now Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and Saturdays from 4 to 6 pm.

We’re currently running through our Longsword curriculum, and have a few members looking into British saber, montante, and a variety of other weapon systems to flesh out for future training options. The great thing with HEMA is that there is always something new to learn!

Looking into 2019, we have several members looking to attend their first tournaments, and we’re in the planning stages for another SparBQ event in September. We’re hoping to add in some classes this year, so stay tuned for further news on that!

We’re still getting a very healthy amount of interest in the club, so here’s to hoping that 2019 will see an awesome amount of growth for us! If you haven’t been able to make it out to training, this is the year to jump on board!

Looking towards a new year

While training sessions may be winding down a bit at the end of the year due to the busy holiday schedules everyone has, planning and brainstorming for next year has picked up to compensate!  We are hammering out a year long curriculum for next year, which will be split into a different area of focus for each quarter.

We'll be kicking off the New Year and new curriculum with a new intro course!  The first one will be held on Saturday, January 13th with a start time of 2 PM, with an Intro Course to be held at the start of each quarter going forward.

We're also pretty excited about the tournament scene around the midwest for next year, with Chicago Swordplay Guild's second Midwinter Armizare Open keeping us frosty in January, Icebreaker heating things up in April, and Krump Pow finishing off the tournament scene with a bang in October....

Does it seem like there's a bit of a gap in this timeline?  Well good news, we're looking at bringing someone special up to host a class right here in Iowa sometime during the summer!  More details on that to come once we get things finalized!

We hope everyone has a fun holiday season and look forward to seeing some new faces (and hopefully new swords!) next year!
